The children learned a little bit about the Life of Vincent Van Gogh by reading Camille and the Sunflowers by Laurence Anholt.  We discussed how Van Gogh showed several rows of petals (layering) and how he added in texture with his painting techniques.  The children then drew their interpretations of flowers on black paper.  Using layering techniques they added in rows of petals.  Many students tried to add texture (pollen) in the middle of their flowers.   Students also played with composition as they planned out how they were going to place the flowers on their paper.  As you can see there were some very unique compositions
