My name is Andre Zielinski, and I am thrilled to be your child’s Art teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. This is my 26th year teaching Art at Stuart R. Paddock School. I have previous experience teaching 5th grade, 3rd/4th Gifted Education, and Serving as Science and Technology representative in the Teacher Leadership Academy within the District. I received my undergraduate degree in Art and Asian Studies from Mundelein College and I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching From National Louis University. In 2004 I became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Childhood and Elementary Art, awarding me with a Master Teacher certificate. I have since recertified that certificate in 2014 and in the spring of 2015 I was name a Teacher of Distinction by the Golden Apple Foundation.   I have enjoyed being part of the Palatine community for the past 26 years and I am looking forward to a wonderful, productive, and creative year with your child.

Art education in my class encompasses the major aspects of art including drawing, painting, three-dimensional art/sculpture, and the elements and principles of design. Throughout the year students will complete at least one project in each of these areas.

During art lessons students will participate in art making, art history, critique, and aesthetics activities. Children will be looking at art (critique/art history) to learn about other cultures, places, artists and works of art. Students will be talking about art (aesthetics) to discuss meanings, ideas, feelings, and moods, and will be making art (art making) to create expressive visual images.

I look forward to maintaining a supportive environment for learning. I will encourage collaborative and integrated learning through the arts. The arts enhance cognitive skills and promote learning. My teaching methods are disciplined based: art history, art criticism, studio art and aesthetics. I have rules for safety so that each student will have a positive experience in the art room. Each student will receive a copy of these rules. I expect them to read the rules and abide by them.I look forward to working with you and your child to promote a successful year. I am always open to discuss suggestions, comments, and concerns. Please feel free to contact me by email or by phone.

Sincerely,

Andre Zielinski
