Our study of fishes continues.  We created their Rainbow fish to look at 2 dimentional design properties of drawing fish and as a springboard to understanding the parts of a fish for our Taco Fish sculptures.  They are called Taco Fish because the children made them from a slab of clay and folding it like a taco.  Once we learned about joining clay together by smoothing it with our fingers, they learned how to carve and add on parts of the fish with extra clay.  They were encouraged to be creative with the shape of their fins, designs and over all look of their fish.

After firing them in the kiln, we learned about glazing and how glazes have silica (glass) in it which will change when heated up in the kiln again.

The children were swimming with joy when they finally got them back.
