First Grade

 

Focus: Introduction to Visual literacy

 

First grade art is an introduction to the elements of art, art appreciation,  and studio techniques. Students are introduced to drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, and sculpture, as well as the use and care of art materials. First grade art focuses on some of the basic elements of art: line, color, shape, pattern, value, and texture. Students create art using a variety of media from imagined and real experience.

Third Grade

 

Focus: The World of Color

 

Third grade art looks at how artists use color in different ways.  Students study how color theory decisions can affect their artwork.  In addition to that we explore the principles of proportion, space, proportion and movement further.

 

Second Grade

 

Focus: World Cultures of Art

 

Second grade art furthers their understanding of the art world by studying how different cultures around the world use art.  Second grade art focuses in on symbolism, pattern, proportion, balance, emphasis.

Forth Grade

Focus: Proportion and Perspective

 

Fourth Grade art focuses on proportion and perspective by studying artists that made great contributions to these principles.  Students work on understanding the  measurements and ratios of objects, people, etc. 

Fifth Grade

 

Focus: 20th Century Art Movements

 

Fifth Grade focuses in on the dramatic changes in the world of art over the 20th century.  Assignments are more individualized as students increase their understanding of using contrast, emphasis, space, repetition, variety, and perspective.

 

Sixth Grade

 

Focus: Art Occupations

 

Sixth Grade focuses in on working on different real life design and art assignments.  Each class becomes a design team.  Each design team is encouraged to collaborate and give feedback to individuals on their creative projects.  Assignments are very open ended and are individualized to the student's vision.
